Reason for the Blog

Early in my spiritual walk I came across an article entitled “The Moral Athlete,” in a little booklet entitled Puritanism in Early America. The article was not particularly sympathetic to Christian Puritans but reflected an undeniable respect for how the Puritans pursued their Christianity. The article likened Puritans such as Jonathan Edwards to a class of people who pursued their Christian faith with the same fervor that an Olympic athlete pursues his sport.

The thought struck me that there seem to be very few Christians who serve Jesus Christ with as much vigor as athletes pursue their sports. These devotional thoughts I am sharing will hopefully help you to have a spiritual workout. These devotions are not intended to be low-impact aerobics but rather rigorous sprints for seasoned players.

Maybe you will be blessed by the thoughts that have blessed me. Almost all these insights came from my early morning devotions. These are my quiet times with God before my seven children get up and my wife stirs out of bed.

The blogs will hopefully be posted once a week. They will be mostly new thoughts, with occasional excerpts from the book Moral Athlete, which has 366 devotional thoughts that have been derived over the decades.
